One day you’re walking around enjoying life, and the next, you’re living with an excruciating toothache. When this happens, there’s only one thing on your mind – get relief, and get it as quickly as possible.
We’re Here for You
We understand how stressful a dental emergency can be. At a time like this, the last thing you need is to settle for a dentist who isn’t able to see you promptly. If there was ever a time you needed fast care from people you trust, this is it. That’s why Dr. Ephram and our team at Laurel Canyon Dental, Darien Ephram DDS in Valley Village, CA, always make your dental emergency a priority.
Since dental emergencies are unpredictable, we always leave a little extra room in our schedule to see emergency patients. If you’re having a problem during regular hours, we’ll make arrangements to get you in as quickly as possible.
Of course, most emergencies seem to happen after hours, and we know how upsetting this can be – especially if the emergency involves your child. For your peace of mind, someone is always available to take your call after hours. We’ll listen to your concerns and tell you how you can handle the situation until we can get to see you the next day. We’ll make sure you get the treatment you need when it matters most.
Steps to Take in an Emergency
The first step is to call our office and let us know what’s going on. We’ll always see you as quickly as possible, but it’s important for you to know how to handle certain emergencies before you get to our office:
• If you’re an adult and a tooth is knocked out, immediate action can make the difference between losing and keeping the tooth. Keeping the tooth moist is most important, so place it in a glass of milk, water, or even saliva until you get to our office. You can try to very gently place it back in the socket, but don’t force it and never touch the root itself.
• For toothaches, rinse the mouth with warm water to clean it out. Use dental floss to gently remove any food particles lodged between teeth. Don’t put aspirin on the tooth – this is an old wives’ tale that can actually do more harm than good.
• If you crack a tooth, use warm water to rinse your mouth and cleanse the area. Place a cold compress on your face (for no more than 20 minutes) to minimize any swelling.
• Losing a filling or dental crown weakens your tooth, so please contact our office immediately to reduce the possibility of further damage.
